Before you travel: what to prepare

Sending the right information early lets Dr. Farouk give you an honest, specific opinion rather than a generic one.

• Clear photos of your face from the front, both profiles and a three-quarter angle, in good light.
• Any breathing difficulties you experience, and whether they're worse on one side.
• If this is a revision, details and, if possible, records from your previous surgery.
• Whether you smoke — this affects healing and is discussed honestly before you book.
• Your passport details and preferred travel window, so your coordinator can align surgery and recovery days.

Your day-by-day journey

• Day 1. Arrival, hotel check-in, in-person consultation confirming your 3D plan.
• Day 2. Surgery under general anaesthesia (roughly 150 minutes), then a few hours of monitored recovery before returning to the hotel.
• Days 3-5. Rest, with daily nurse checks, swelling management and the splint kept dry.
• Day 6. Splint and cast removed; Dr. Farouk reviews early healing.
• Day 7. Final check, written aftercare plan, transfer to the airport.

Once the splint is off and your surgeon confirms sun exposure is safe, some patients extend the trip by a few calm days on the Red Sea before flying home — a good option if bruising has largely settled and you want a gentler re-entry than a direct flight home.

Recovery timeline and when you can fly

Visible bruising and most swelling settle over the first two weeks; the splint comes off around day six and most patients fly home around day seven, once cleared. The final refined shape continues to define over the following six to twelve months as residual swelling resolves — this is normal and expected, not a sign of an unfinished result.

Travelling with a companion

Many patients bring a partner, parent or friend, especially for a procedure under general anaesthesia — it’s entirely optional, but often makes the first day or two easier. Your coordinator books their hotel room alongside yours, arranges their airport transfer, and can include a companion in the pre-op consultation if you’d like a second set of ears for the details. There’s no extra clinic fee for a companion attending consultations, only their own travel and accommodation costs.

Risks and how we manage them

As with any surgery under general anaesthesia, risks include bruising and swelling, infection, minor asymmetry, and changes in breathing sensation; a small proportion of cases need a minor revision. • Step 4 — Book your dates. Your coordinator lines up flights, hotel and the clinic schedule around you.
• Step 5 — Treatment and recovery. Roughly 7 days in Egypt, coordinated from arrival to departure.
