Your day-by-day journey

• Day 1. Arrival, hotel check-in, pre-op consultation and bloodwork.
• Day 2. Surgery under general anaesthesia (roughly 180 minutes), followed by one night of monitored hospital stay.
• Day 3. Discharge to the hotel with a compression garment fitted and drains explained if used.
• Days 4-6. Rest, daily nurse checks, gentle short walks to reduce clot risk.
• Day 7. Surgical review; drains typically removed once output is low enough.
• Day 8-9. Optional calm extension on the Red Sea once your surgeon confirms you're ready for gentle travel — no swimming or sun on the incision yet.
• Final day. Written aftercare plan and the transfer to the airport.

Recovery timeline and when you can fly

Most patients fly home around day seven to nine, once your surgeon confirms you're mobile and the wound is healing well. Long-haul flights carry a real clot risk after abdominal surgery, so expect compression stockings, plenty of water, regular movement in the aisle, and — if your surgeon advises it — a short course of blood-thinning medication. Light daily activity usually resumes around 14 days. The abdominal compression garment is normally worn for four to six weeks, exercise and heavy lifting wait for your surgeon's clearance at roughly six weeks, and the final contour keeps settling over several months.

Travelling with a companion

Because this is a longer stay with a hospital night, many patients bring a companion for support — entirely optional, but it often makes early recovery days more comfortable.
